Oral and Maxillofacial nerve disturbance ward

The most common form of inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) damage in dentistry is partial nerve amputation. Surgical repair is necessary for this condition and when it is left untreated for long periods, neural scarring can cause symptoms of allodynia. Several approaches with microneurosurgery and regeneration materials exist for nerve repair however no definite treatment method has been established. Statistically speaking, about 1.5% of all Inferior Alveolar Nerve (IAN) and Lingual Nerve (LN) damage is caused by dental implant procedures and wisdom teeth extractions. We accurately and objectively diagnose how much damage has been done and we repair the nerve using micro surgical techniques depending on the severity of the damage. Our private clinic is the first in Japan to be able to repair these nerves. We have already treated many patients from all over Japan. Severe nerve damage should always be treated as quickly as possible (ie. within 6 months), otherwise the patient could develop permanent damage. If you feel pain or numbness in the mouth after one or two days of your dental procedure, then you should make an appointment with us to assess the situation.

In a recent study by Dr K Sasaki, (published in September 2014, in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), called
"Studies on the sensory nerve action potentials of lingual nerve (LN)", it was described that Lingual nerve (LN) injury is common trauma disease in the field of oral surgery such as an iantrogenic injury during the third molar extraction. The early diagnosis and proper treatment, lead to good convalescence for nerve regeneration. In order to identify the symptoms associated with LN injury, the subjective symptoms (such as the sensory tests), were recorded. In addition, the 2-point discrimination, pain and temperature tests and the SW (Semmes Weinstein pressure) esthesiometer which performs a tactile threshold test (SW test) were used.
